Tuberculosis Testing at Medicine Shoppe
Medicine Shoppe is one of the few locations in Lethbridge offering tuberculosis (TB) testing for eligible Albertans. Our services include the Mantoux skin test — a widely used method to screen for TB exposure. Please note, while this test can identify possible TB exposure, it is not used to diagnose active TB infection.

Who Should Get a TB Test?
You may need a TB test if you:
- Have symptoms of an active TB infection (such as persistent cough, weight loss, or fever).
- Are at higher risk for TB exposure, including healthcare workers, those living or working in high-risk settings (e.g., group housing, assisted living, correctional facilities), or individuals with weakened immune systems.
- Have been exposed to someone with active TB.
- Have traveled to regions with higher rates of TB, including parts of Asia or Africa. (Remember to inform your healthcare provider about recent travels!)
Certain workplaces, such as childcare centers and hospitals, may also require you to be tested for TB as a condition of employment.
What is a TB Test?
A TB test checks for exposure to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes tuberculosis. The most common test for TB screening is the Mantoux skin test, though there are also blood tests available. These tests help identify if you’ve been infected with latent tuberculosis, which could develop into active TB under certain conditions.
If you’re concerned about your risk or need a test for work or travel, we’re here to help. Contact Medicine Shoppe for more information or to schedule your test today!
